Donations, Tips and Pay-What-You-Want with Product Addons

The Customer Defined Price field turns any product into a donation box or tip jar — earmarked, reported and refundable like any other order line.

Pay-what-you-want doesn’t fit a fixed price field — and that’s exactly what charities, artists, indie makers and cafés keep asking for: let the customer choose the amount. The Customer Defined Price field turns any WooCommerce product into a donation box, a tip jar, or a name-your-price download.

The addon setup

For a charity or cause:

  • Add a donationCustomer Defined Price on every product, so any purchase can carry a top-up for the cause.
  • Where should it go?Multiple Choice as a dropdown (general fund / project A / project B), free options, so the donation is earmarked on the order.
  • Keep me updatedShort Text as email input, optional, validated as an email address.

For a café, artist or maker:

  • Add a tipCustomer Defined Price, sitting quietly under the order options.
  • Gift wrap & cardSingle Checkbox plus a conditional Long Text message field for gifting purchases.

Why it works

  • The amount is the customer’s choice, the flow is still WooCommerce. The entered amount joins the live totals box and travels through cart, checkout and the order like any other line — reporting, refunds and emails all just work.
  • Attach a donation to every product with one group. Target “All products” and a single field puts the option storewide; exclusions keep it off gift cards or sale items if you prefer.
  • Earmarking without spreadsheets. Pairing the amount with a dropdown means each order records both how much and what for — finance reads it off the order export.
  • No pressure by design. The field is optional and starts empty. Customers who skip it see nothing else change — no popups, no guilt banner.

Build it

The Customer Defined Price field needs no pricing mode at all — the customer’s number is the price. Create a storewide Support us group, add the field with a warm label and a one-line description of where the money goes, and check the result with the builder’s Preview before enabling it.
