B2B stores serve two audiences from one catalogue: retail shoppers who want a simple page, and trade buyers who need extras — custom labelling, palletising, a PO number on the invoice. Role-based addon visibility lets the same product show each audience only what applies to them.
The addon setup
- PO number — Short Text, visible only to the Wholesale role. It rides on the order line, so it appears on the confirmation the buyer forwards to accounts.
- Custom labelling — Multiple Choice (none / customer branding / white label), wholesale-only, with a flat setup fee on the branded options.
- Palletising & shrink wrap — Single Checkbox, percentage pricing, so the handling charge scales with order value. Wholesale-only.
- Sample sachet — Single Checkbox, flat fee, shown only to Guests and retail customers — an acquisition tool trade buyers don’t need.
- Delivery instructions — Long Text, visible to everyone.
Why it works
- One catalogue, two experiences. Retail visitors see a clean page; a logged-in wholesale buyer sees the trade fields. No duplicate products, no hidden category, nothing to keep in sync.
- The Guest pseudo-role covers logged-out visitors. You can aim a field at people without an account — a “request a trade account” prompt, say — and it disappears the moment they log in as trade.
- Trade data lands on the order. PO numbers and labelling choices are order item meta: exports, invoices from other plugins and the admin order screen all show them without custom code.
- Exclusions handle the edge cases. Show a field to every role except one, or apply the group to a brand’s whole range except discontinued lines.
Build it
Role targeting lives in the group’s Users & Roles panel — leave it empty for everyone, or pick roles and add exclusions. If you also run Tiered Pricing Table for wholesale price breaks, addon prices stack correctly on top of the tier price, so the two plugins cover quantity pricing and trade options together.
